Caribbean Chronicles

Option 1:

One Story. Many Visions.

A single Caribbean literary work, reimagined through the lens of many voices.

Each filmmaker will create a short film adaptation of the “The Living Sea” and will be judged on the best interpretation of the original work.

  • These adaptations must have been produced after 1st January 2025.

  • Short films will not exceed the maximum running time of forty (40) minutes, including credits

“The Living Sea,” excerpted from Monster in the Middle by Tiphanie Yanique. Tiphanie Yanique is a novelist, poet, essayist and short story writer. Her new novel, Monster in the Middle was included on numerous best of the year lists and in the Boston Globe’s Best Books of 2021.

Stories from the book have already won many accolades: including selected as one the Best American Short Stories of 2021 by Curtis Sittenfield; and published in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Harvard Review and the Yale Review.

Monster in the Middle is a radical love story that proves “when you meet your love, you are meeting all the people who ever loved the, or who were supposed to love them but didn’t love them enough or, hell, didn’t love them at all – Tiphanie Yanique.

Your Author. Your Story.

Celebrate Caribbean literature through the cinematic voices of its people—at home and abroad.

Filmmakers from the Caribbean and its diaspora are invited to select a published work by any Caribbean author of their choosing and create a short film adaptation of their chosen piece. These adaptations will be judged within a dedicated competition category.

These adaptions must have been produced after 1st January 2025.

  • Short films will not exceed the maximum running time of forty (40) minutes, including credits

Submissions under the Regional category may include, but are not limited to, the following genres:

  • Short Fiction: action, drama, comedy, romance, thriller, etc.

  • Short Documentary 

  • Short Animation
