Local Lens
Short film pieces produced, co-produced and/or directed by adult filmmakers 18 years or older from the British Virgin Islands. These pieces must have been produced after 1st January 2024. Short films (any genre) must have a running time of no more than forty (40) minutes, including credits.
Films should creatively align with at least one of the below-mentioned elements of the 284 Excellence Film Festival logo:
Windmill: representing power and ingenuity
Turtledove: symbolising vision, soaring, and patriotism
Sailboat: reflecting movement and cross-border appeal
Submissions under the National category may include, but are not limited to, the following genres:
Short Fiction: action, drama, comedy, romance, thriller, etc.
Short Documentary
Short Animation
Music Video
Student Smartphone Contest
Say Less Competition
Short film pieces produced, co-produced and/or directed by adolescent filmmakers from ages 9 to 12 (category A) and ages 13 to 17 (category B) from the British Virgin Islands. These pieces must have been produced after 1st January 2025.
Short films must have a running time of no less than five (5) minutes and no more than seven (7) minutes, excluding credits and must be shot fully on a smartphone.
Submissions under the Student Smartphone category may include, but are not limited to, the following genres:
Short Fiction: action, drama, comedy, romance, thriller, etc.
Documentary Film
Music Video
Prizes for Student Smartphone Contest:
Viral Video Challenge
Video produced, co-produced and/or directed by adolescent filmmakers from ages 9 to 17 from the British Virgin Islands promoting the territory as a premier destination for anything of choice (vacation, film, business, etc). These pieces must have been produced after 1st January 2025.
Films must include footage of Cape Air’s Spirit of the Caribbean and incorporate the phrase “Spirit of the Caribbean.”
Videos must have a running time of one (1) minute and thirty (30) seconds.
